Doolittle School!

The Soulful Grandma Brigade, four ladies strong, presented the Captain of Kindness program at the Dolittle School, in Cheshire, on May 24th, 2024. We were thrilled to see sixty five gorgeous third grade faces, sitting in a rather warm gymnasium. The kids seemed unaffected by the temperature but four middle age (and higher) women were certainly aware.

Hats off to the amazing children as they gave us their full attention. They were responsive, excited and engaged with the story. The music videos were a big hit! Especially, the song "We Can Be Kind." We played it twice and children sang along and swayed to the chorus with their "heart hands" up in the air. It was inspired and inspiring.

I took my three year old granddaughter, Charlotte, with us on this soiree and she was a big hit. She was in charge of handing out Inclusion Revolution stickers and the kids were hugging her, giving her high fives and one little boy picked her up and attempted to carry her across the room. His teacher gently, with a smile and and eye roll, said, "Put the baby down." The kids were all blowing kisses at Charlotte as they left the gym. Charlotte has requested to attend every Captain of Kindness school visit.

Kids want and need connection. The Soulful Grandmas were honored that we could share this program of kindness and inclusion with this lovely group of delightful children.

We left gifts for the wonderful teachers to continue to share the message of gentle respect for all critters and humans too.

We left, exhausted, sweaty and gratified. And it that wasn't enough, we received dozens of thank you notes from the children. I wish I could share all of them here. There are too many to fit comfortably on a blog post. The creative energy and genuine gratitude that were written in crayon and ink, colored and pictures galore, touched our hearts.

Thank you to the Connecticut Community Foundation for giving us a grant to present our Inclusion Revolution to TWENTY classrooms before the end of the 24-25 school year. We have a lot of Soulful Grandmas from Heritage Village in Southbury that are raring to go! Hopefully in a cooler room, but no matter- we will be thrilled!
